Story: LONE STAR KICKING CHALLENGE WINNERS

Ryan Doerr of Katy Named Overall Winner

Katy’s Ryan Doerr won three medals this past weekend and was named the Overall Winner at the 2007 Lone Star Kicking Challenge in San Marcos. Doerr won the Kickoff Competition and finished second in the punting competition. The Overall award is given to the kicker who competes in Kickoff, Field Goal, and Punting, and does the best overall. Plano East Chad Powell was the Overall runner up and Jersey Village’s Brian Davis was third.
Doerr finished third overall in the Kickoff Preliminaries, which was won by Davis, but won the tournament, beating Round Rock McNeil’s Barrett Philen in the final. Philen won the Silver medal and Davis won the Bronze.
Rice Consolidated’s Taylor Cook was the Gold Medal winner in Punting, finishing first in the preliminary round and beating Doerr for the Gold Medal in the finals. Powell took the Bronze in punting.
Jacob Shackelford of Richardson Pearce was the Field Goal winner, with Robbie Hersh of Pearland taking second, and Greg Congleton of Arlington finishing third. Congleton finished first in the preliminary round.
Sophomore Ben Jackson of Texas High in Texarkana won the snapping competition. Jackson had to survive a snap off to make the finals, but upset three higher seeded players to win the Gold Medal. Chris Teich of Georgetown won the Silver Medal and Rosenberg Terry’s Tyler Teykl took the Bronze. Teykl had the best scores of the prelimary round.
The Lone Star Kicking is in its seventh year and is operated by Texas Recruiting Analyst Randy Rodgers.
