Joshua Ward Wins Overall Gold Medal

          Pleasanton’s Joshua Ward was named the outstanding Overall performer at the 10th Annual Lone Star Kicking Challenge in Austin. Ward was the only kicker to place in the top 10 in all three events (kickoff, field goal, and punt) and also took home the gold medal in the kickoff competition. Holliday’s Bryce Davis was second overall and Alamo Hts.’ Kristian Stern was third. Boerne Champion Freshman Clayton Hatfield was the top underclassman (fr/so).

            Ward won the kickoff competition in a kickoff with Rockwall Heath’s Trevor Pinkston. Ward had finished eighth in the preliminary round, but upset the top seed Michael Shroble of Klein Oak in the finals. Shroble won the bronze medal while sophomore Taylor Knopf of Boerne was the top underclassman. 
            Caleb Vandever of Skidmore-Tynan won gold in the field goal. Jordan Jeter of A&M Consolidated took the silver, and Eduardo Alanis of Palacios won the bronze. The top underclassman was Matthew Wylie of Dripping Springs .
            Leander’s Andy Gonzalez won the punting competition, beating Katy Seven Lakes’ Andrew Tucker in the final. Stern won the bronze and Hatfield took the gold for underclassmen.
            Shane Hennig of Lorena won the snapping competition, beating Jared Jones of Henderson in a snap off for the championship. Ryan Kowalewski of Ft. Bend Travis was the bronze medalist and sophomore Kevin McGinty of San Antonio MacArthur was the top underclassman.
