Story: LONE STAR KICKING CHALLENGE EXPANDS

Separate Division for Underclassmen

For the first time in its nine year history, the Lone Star Kicking Challenge will recognize and reward the top underclass kickers/punters/and snappers at this year’s event. The 9th annual Lone Star Kicking Challenge, to be held July 10 and 11 at Westlake High School in Austin, annually awards medals to the top three finishers in each of its four events. This year the top underclassman (Class of 2012 or below) will be recognized also.

“When you have open competition with only one division, it seems to discourage the younger kids from participating.   This year those players will have a division all to themselves and we hope it will stimulate signups. We’ll see how it works and determine whether to expand the competition next year,” says event director Randy Rodgers.

Between 125 and 150 players annually participate in the Lone Star Kicking Challenge in one or more of four events: kickoff, field goal, punting, and snapping. Also for the first time, players can register online at  www.randyrodgersrecruiting.com
